No more waiting for Wednesday–now you can get a daily dose of Dategirl! This week, in a 5-4 vote, the Supreme Court ruled that State and local governments can’t impose restrictions on gun ownership. Herb Titus, counsel for the Gun Owners of America and an all-around peachy-sounding fella, says he’s going to use this ruling to help a group that’s been discriminated against for far too long. Of course I’m speaking of those poor, misunderstood men who’ve been convicted of domestic violence. In an interview with NPR that reads like it was lifted straight out of The Onion, Titus declared his noble intentions to fight for his wife-beating peeps. Yes, because if anyone should own a gun, it should be a person who’s proven to be violent towards his partner and/or children. After all, fists are so inefficient and stabbing can get messy. Sometimes you don’t even have to shoot your gun to make your point–you can just show that bitch you mean business by waving it around a little bit. Maybe fire off a couple warning shots when Little Missy gets mouthy. And even if you do wind up shooting her (and a Johns-Hopkins-sponsored study of battered women found a five-fold increased risk of the partner murdering the woman when the partner owned a gun) a corpse can’t testify. Besides, I’m sure Herb will take your case, gratis. So for that, Herb Titus, I salute you. A simple lawyer with a cause and no conscience has unseated a world-famous multimillionaire in the race for Asshole of the Week. Kudos, my friend. Your trophy’s in the mail.
