Besides leaving his blue and green “NWS” hat behind as evidence, the unknown burglar who robbed Captain Nemo’s restaurant in University Place this weekend seems to have pulled off a flawless heist. But if it makes the store owner feel any better, dude had to spend two hours in the ceiling above a bathroom stall in order to do it. KOMO News reports Sunday evening that police are hoping someone might recognize the guy from security camera footage that caught him in the act. That might be easier if he (and we’re saying “he” because the person looks like either a man or a tall, manlike woman) even once looked at the camera.Instead the guy walks in the store, B-lines it toward the bathroom, then shimmies up into the ceiling, where he waits until long after closing. After that, it’s an easy drop into a storage area behind the bar where he makes quick work of a safe, then makes off with $5,000.It seems that if one were a betting individual, it’d be a safe wager that homeboy either worked at the place for some time, or had some insider knowledge that told him where the cameras were, where the ceiling hole was and where the store manager kept his safe (not to mention either told him the combination to the safe or left it unlocked for him). The store owner, one Wayne Hogan, tells KOMO that the robbery makes him “disappointed in humanity.”I’d, for one, be disappointed that I forgot to either lock the safe, or to make sure I was the only one that knew the combination. Here’s Mr. stall dangler in action and the lineman-sized cop that found his hat.
