Yesterday marked the birthday of local emcee Sol–responsible for one of 2010’s best local hip-hop releases in Dear Friends, Vol. 2–and as a birthday present to everyone else, worked with fellow Seattle rapper Grynch to drop his latest single in celebration. Even though a nightlife-heavy lifestyle may have depleted his energy before, it seems Grynch has adapted–or at least that’s what his new track “All I Wanna Do” will lead you to believe. The chorus from Sol, crooning “All I wanna do is sip my brew and party, can I party with ya’ll? / And when I slide through, what I’m probably gon’ do is party, because I party a lot,” is an ode to the good life, and a jazzy brass-and-keys beat from virtually unknown Seattle producer Jester offers up even more proof of Grynch’s eye for new talent (his 2009 hit “My Volvo” was produced by college kid Ill Pill). And while he’s hopped on a few projects in the interim, there hasn’t been a fresh official Grynch release since his Rapping About Rapping Mixtape in March–though Sol says he’s been “nagging the homey to drop his new single since late August.” But amidst the cold and rain, the summery cut might be a lot more needed now. Early on in the song, Grynch talks about prefunking with a bottle of Corona while bumping “Coronas on Madrona,” a fitting tribute to The Physics in a laid-back song about laid-back partying and sipping brews over Hennesy even if it doesn’t get you as gone. As much as it’s fun to hear local artists make quasi-club rap, this is the type of party music that speaks to the true vibe of Seattle.
