Nick FeldmanWho: Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic ZeroesWhen: 7:30 p.m.Where: Broad Street StageThis is a band that had a lot of fans at Bumbershoot, many of whom were young and hipster-y and all of whom showed up early–as in before the previous set, an impressive neo-soul offering from Jamie Lidell, even ended. And while Edward Sharpe is actually the messianic figure frontman Alex Ebert (his actual name) created for a book he was writing, his appearance as some sort of wonderful strung-out Jesus was completely convincing. Stomping around in his bare feet and frayed jeans–that quickly became the only thing he was wearing–Ebert wasted no time hopping down from the stage and into the crowd that adored him. The entire set carried an undeniably good vibe–there was a babe-in-arms on stage, for chrissake–and the band did everything I had hoped they would. The crowd was wild, giving their energy out and getting it back from the stage tenfold. And as the full-bodied set closed with summer anthem “Home,” I came to a realization: now that I’ve heard the song live, I don’t think I’ll be able to get it out of my head for a good long while. And I’m just fine with that.
