Local MC LaRue has released “Rise Up,” a cut from his still-in-the-works album, Back to the Old Me. Dude has an aggressive revolutionary flair reminiscent of Dead Prez, but I suspect he’s influenced more by his life than he is by the works of other politically-minded MCs.In an email sent to me over the summer, LaRue explains the origins of another track on the album, “I’m a Soldier,” like this: “It’s a song about my journey and experience overseas in support of [Operation] Iraqi Freedom. I was in the U.S. Army for eight years. Back in 2004 – 2005, I was deployed to Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and Iraq. … I think it’s a song the world should hear, because there’s so much untold truth about these deployments people really don’t know about.” Check out the “Rise Up” MP3 below.
