Around the time of the 2010 Red Bull Big Tune, I ended up in a Pioneer Square apartment with DV One and Vitamin D to talk about the now-nationwide producer battle. After the Big Tune discussion wound down, talk turned to Vita’s collaboration with Maineack Tubman (who also happened to be there) as The Stay Hi Bros. Vita burned me a disc of unmastered tracks, and they’ve sat high among my iTunes playlists ever since. Now, enter F#%K A VALENTINE.Like the Bornday EP, the vet duo’s Valentine’s Day comp arrived with no warning and almost no promotion. But as these things often go, the least visible can be the most worth finding. The project’s hysterically (ironically) ignorant raps range from the self-descriptive “Dolla for a Stripper” and “Over Her” to more aggressive sentiments of “you’re still a bitch” or “quit being a bitch” or “we might as well just take your bitch”–all over Vitamin D’s legendary production. And funny enough, the truest love letter comes in part two of the bonus track, aka “Stop Foolin’ Wit U,” a song chronicling the relationship with Mary Jane that personified her beautifully. “I gotta quick fuckin’ with you!
