The Nite Lite Restaurant

The Nite Lite Restaurant doesn’t have live entertainment. It doesn’t have to. During the better part of the two hours my friend and I were there, stuffing ourselves silly with jalapeño poppers, we heard a man at the bar proclaim that he had “never killed anyone,” and a woman hailing a complete stranger with the jolly words: “Oh, another baby on the way?” (With a toothless grin, the poor woman managed to mutter: “Um . . . no.”) In the background, Johnny Cash was singing “Walk the Line” while Patsy Cline belted out “Back in Baby’s Arms.” It seemed too perfect… until a creepy little man crept over and snatched our spare chair like he was having baby’s-mama drama and the chair was his paternity test. In a cloud of nicotine, the after-work crowd proved just as interesting as the after-hours crowd. The veggie burgers were good, too. And with plenty of beer gear, night lights (hmm . . . interesting), and mirrors gracing the walls, I was quite easily distracted. I recommend sitting in the booths by the bar. The fun never stops. I fear I will be a repeat offender. FYI: It’s cash only—and not the Johnny kind. Second Avenue and Virginia Street, 206-443-0899. DOWNTOWN
