Image credit: www.moblog.com.OK, it?s the day after Thanksgiving, and most of us are (or will be) slaving away here at the Weekly, not lolling about at home sleeping off our holiday indulgence like–hopefully–many of you readers. Those of you who have to get out of the house, consider shopping. Yes, it is that day, the biggest day of consumer madness on the fiscal calendar, but hey, you need some beets for your borscht. Well, Pike Place Market is open today, and though you won?t be the only one there, they?ll sell you all sorts of familiar and strange vegetables. The U District Market and the West Seattle locations are also open this weekend. And if you must begin your holiday shopping–I know, it?s a Secret Santa or Yankee Swap, you aren?t planning on getting soooooo many presents as last year. Or maybe your gifts will simply be edible this year. Whatever your plan, consider shopping at your local farmers markets, chatting up the farmers, and handing your cash over to someone a lot closer to the means of production. A few suggestions: a wreath crafted from rosemary, Estrella Family Creamery’s Morbier, raw honeycomb, or pumpkin jam from Woodring Foods.
