Every foodie I know has a hard time shopping at specialty markets without picking up 20 things we don’t need. (C’mon, Maggie, you know you should have bought those durian marshmallows at Viet Wah!) My rule these days is to look over my basket right before I get in line and pick out all the items that I know I can’t use within the week. Sure, I look like a crazy person walking around the store putting jars and packets back on the shelf, but it does keep my kitchen cabinets neat. But I couldn’t leave Uwajimaya without this fine can, whose inadvertent poetry continues to amuse me. I guess it’s because I have a special place in my heart for 1994. How does it taste? Sigh.
