Kashiwa-mochiHere in America, Children’s Day “Kodmo No Hi” tends to get lost in the tequila-fueled craze known as Cinco de Mayo. Nevertheless, it’s a Japanese national holiday dedicated to kids’ health and happiness that takes place every year on May 5.To celebrate, the Japanese traditionally eat kashiwa-mochi, rice cakes filled with adzuki, a boiled red bean, sugar, and honey paste. These super sticky-sweet goodies will make even your filled cavities ache. But they are so worth the pain. Guess what? Japanese confectionery Tokara in Phinney Ridge is selling kashiwa-mochi ($3.30 each) from 1 to 6 p.m. today, in honor of Kodomo No Hi. Hurry in and get a box for your kids, or even better, yourself!
