Julie Alpert

There’s an everyday charm to these small urban watercolors, created from impressions Alpert made while roaming Capitol Hill, Columbia City, and Georgetown. Dumpsters, sheds, alleyways, backyards, and tarps draped over old cars form gentle geometries. The soft hues are more commonly applied to flowers and nature scenes, but Alpert lends a delicate, affectionate touch to the “ugly” overlooked spaces in our city. (Also on view: the group show Man and Beast, which incorporates 3D animation, ceramics, and more to explore the relationship between us and our furry companions.) BRIAN MILLER
