Seafair Torchlight Run

So what exactly does the Torchlight Run involve, you ask? The running part is pretty straightforward: Either a 5K (3.1 miles) along the crumbling, unsafe Viaduct, which could collapse at any minute; or an 8K (about five miles) that loops back along Fourth Avenue to Qwest Field. Seafair’s annual torch-lighting ceremony precedes the event, followed (at 7 p.m.) by the parade down Fourth, with clowns, pirates, and beauty queens. (Miss Seafair will receive her crown at 7:30 p.m.) Local shoe company Brooks is among the sponsors for the race, which benefits Ronald McDonald House. Best of all, you can carbo-load on beer after the race at all the nearby sports bars. Maybe Miss Seafair will give you her number. Qwest Field, 800 Occidental Ave S., 728-0123, www.seafair.com. $20–$30. 6:30 p.m. NICK FELDMAN
