Katey Sagal

Saturday, May 24

I’ve heard more than a couple people snicker when I mention being

pumped over Katey Sagal’s performance. “You’re going to see Peg

Bundy?” they say. Yeah, so she played Peg Bundy on Married . . . With

Children (an amazing show that deserves more credit than it gets, by

the way), but did you also know she was a backup vocalist for Bob

Fucking Dylan? Yep, Sagal’s resume is about as robust as Peg’s

bouffant wig. Her work for Dylan was limited to studio time during the

Street Legal sessions (ultimately scrapped), but her real

rock-‘n’-roll moment came when Gene Simmons of KISS asked her to sing

backup vocals for “Calling Dr. Love” on Rock and Roll Over. She also

toured with Bette Midler in 1979, sang on Olivia Newton John’s “Soul

Kiss,” and has released two albums of her own. I know . . . crazy,

right? Her latest, 2004’s Room, was a blend of folk, country, and

adult pop produced by Bob Thiele and Ray Kennedy. Though it’s a good

album, it’s not one I’d listen to or own, ever. But that doesn’t mean

I’d pass up the chance to see Peg Bundy live at the Triple Door.

Triple Door, 216 Union St., 838-4333. 7 & 9:30 p.m. $25 adv./$30.
