Wonky transport blog Infrastructurist says if Washington’s not careful, this will become the state’s unofficial seal.Clunkily titled blog Infrastructurist says Washington has two of the four biggest potential transportation boondoggles in the country: the Alaskan Way Viaduct tunnel and SR-704, the proposed Cross-Base Highway in Pierce County.Of the tunnel, Infrastructurist says: “For the sake of a city with exciting light rail plans and big-city potential…the tunnel is too expensive and will only advance the interests of car commuters, rather than encourage them to try transit.” And of SR-704, which has generated considerably less coverage: “This project is located at the far southern edges of the Seattle exurbs; it seems inevitable that more roads in the area will encourage more sprawl.”(H/T: PubliCola)
