While Seattle attempted to take the step of taxing all disposable bags (the rule is on hold pending an a public vote), regardless of their material, San Francisco decided instead simply to ban plastic ones. According to this story in our sister paper, San Francisco Weekly, Seattle saw San Francisco’s example as a cautionary one, as the one-material ban has, if anything, been environmentally counterproductive.
