Weinergate LogoUpdate: Weiner makes it official, resigns “so my colleagues can get back to work, my neighbors can choose a new representative and most importantly that my wife and I can continue to heal from the damage I have caused.”Earlier: What began as a supposed prank tweet to a Seattle college student has now led to the pending resignation of New York congressman Anthony Weiner. ABC News says Weiner called House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and Rep. Steve Israel, chairman of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, Wednesday night while they were at a White House picnic to inform them he would step down today. At the same time, his former Seattle Twitter pal Gennette Cordova, who was sent the scandal-launching photo of Weiner’s bulging shorts, has closed her Twitter page and is apparently trying to distance herself from Weinergate. iMaksim.comThough Cordova was reluctant to tell her whole story all along, she had chatted more frequently of late with reporters and other Twitter site visitors, tersely noting she felt less “deflated” and objecting to being lumped in with others who, unlike her, had a sexting relationship with the N.Y. Democrat. (One blogger claims he recently had an extended direct-message exchange with Cordova). But, having been relentlessly satirized as a bimbo of sorts–such as in the poster to the right–she appears to have now signed off. A click onto Cordova’s site leads to a “Sorry, that page doesn’t exist!” message.Follow The Daily Weekly on Facebook and Twitter.
