Wearing a crazy outfit of oven mitts and a “shock sleeve,” and saying crazy things about how “God” made him rape, torture, and kill a woman, Isaiah Kalebu did his best in court today to convince everyone that he is in fact crazy. This despite the fact that Kalebu’s lawyers are trying to convince the jury that their client is innocent–not that he’s a crazed lunatic and therefore should be institutionalized.Kalebu apparently has never received that memo, and since the trial started has made violent outbursts in court that got him banned from the courtroom. He also swallowed a pencil during a hearing, tried to strangle himself with a towel, and demanded that he testify while draped in an American flag. Today Kalebu’s testimony amounted to answering two questions. One, that “yes” he had been diagnosed with mental illness, and the other about what happened on that night in July 2009 when Teresa Butz and her partner were raped and tortured in their home and Butz was ultimately killed. To that he said: “I was there and I was told by my God, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, to attack my enemies, and I did so.” Follow The Daily Weekly on Facebook and Twitter.
