Wayne Creach called Spokane Valley police yesterday complaining of a prowler at the nursery he owned next to his home. But the 74-year-old Southern Baptist pastor’s request wasn’t honored until later that night, during the graveyard shift, with apparently tragic consequences.Creach was shot and killed by a Spokane Valley police officer who’d gone to investigate the call. The officer, who arrived at the nursery in an unmarked car, apparently had a confrontation with Creach. “At 11 o’clock, my father got out of his bed responding to what he thought was a burglar and he took a gun,” Creach’s son Alan told a local TV station. “Subsequently, a deputy sheriff shot him and killed him. My mother could hear that from the bedroom. She heard a shout and almost immediately thereafter there were three shots that she heard.”Next to Creach’s body cops say they found the handgun his son referenced. Creach founded Greenacres Baptist Church in 1971 and was known as “Pastor Scott” to its 300 members.
