Today is “Children’s Day” at the Washington State House of Representatives. Rather than taking the day off, like the rest of their peers, the offspring of our reps go to work with their parents. It’s like TV Washington in HD. Recalls 45th District Rep. Roger Goodman of a previous Children’s Day: “It’s actually torture for the kids. Everyone’s giving long-winded speeches. I remember my daughter said to me when I was waiting to speak, ‘Daddy, when you get up, tell them to stop.'”Mercifully, Children’s Day was one of the few child-related programs not to suffer cuts in Christine Gregoire’s proposed budget.
