The same front-of-the-backpack photo of the bomb found on the route of a MLK Day parade in Spokane has been floating around for a while now. When the news first broke, the bomb was referred to a simply a “pipe bomb,” which feels somehow to denote a lack of sophistication. Some new pics are out now, and some new experts talking about it, and both agree that this thing may be a pipe bomb, but it’s far from amateur. These photos were posted by KHQ.KHQ/Trevor SmithKHQ/Trevor SmithKHQ/Trevor SmithKHQ/Trevor SmithYesterday the AP reported an anonymous U.S. official saying it was the most “potentially destructive” device he’d ever seen.”They haven’t seen anything like this in this country,” the official said. “This was the worst device, and most intentional device, I’ve ever seen.”A bit alarmist, perhaps. But no doubt that this thing exploding on a parade procession would have been horrific.
