Seattleites just aren’t warming to Mayor Mike McGinn. He’s becoming our own Mitt Romney: No matter what he says or does, something about him just can’t connect. In fact, only one-third of the city’s electorate have a favorable view of the job he’s doing at City Hall, according to a new KING 5 News poll.More than halfway through his term, 50 percent of those surveyed said they disapprove of his performance, compared with 33 percent who approve and 18 percent who said they weren’t sure what to make of Mayor McSchwinn. The poll of 500 voters was conducted by SurveyUSA between Feb. 15 and Feb. 19, so it does cover the period where McGinn enjoyed positive press coverage of his new sports-arena rollout proposal and plans to bring back an NBA franchise. McGinn, who will deliver his state-of-the-city address this afternoon, has real problems with women voters, where 48 percent of them give the mayor a thumbs-down, compared with 27 percent who have a positive impression. Among men, things aren’t much better, with 51 saying they disapprove, 38 percent saying they approve. The mayor does best with voters 50 and older (38 percent positive), and worst among the younger set (18 to 34 years old), where 57 percent disapproved. There is some good news for McGinn, if you want to call it that: He does have a higher approval rating than Seattle Police Chief John Diaz (30 percent) and the city’s school board (30 percent).Follow The Daily Weekly on Facebook and Twitter.
