Score one for the Council! Yesterday, Nick Licata put out a press

Score one for the Council! Yesterday, Nick Licata put out a press release touting Seattle’s leading role in asking Obama to set up an advisory council for his new Office of Urban Affairs. Today, as commenter “LH” noted, Obama called for just such a council in a speech to the nation’s mayors:”[Office of Urban Affairs head Adolfo Carrion is] going to be responsible for coordinating all federal urban programs, and I’ve asked him to set up an advisory council with mayors and other urban leaders so that we can develop a new metropolitan strategy based on the lessons you’ve learned. Now, rebuilding our economies and renewing our cities is going to require a true partnership between mayors and the White House, and that partnership has to begin right now.”Licata says he’s “gratified to learn that the administration heeded the call of our cities.” Perhaps the council could move on to getting Obama to follow through on some of these.
