Schmudget is running a series this week called “Five Facts About the Economy and the Deficit”. Today’s entry is “People Aren’t Buying Stuff”. It’s not an earth-shattering observation, of course, but it is always interesting to see the numbers, and to learn stuff like this:Most of the difference between the deficit expected last spring and the current projection is due to reduced revenue expectations. The total amount of general fund revenue expected in the two biennia has fallen by $2.7 billion since the current budget was passed. Sixty-eight percent of the difference is from falling retail sales tax revenue.
