Our winter snowstorm apparently exposed a lot more than just a lack of snow plows. Greg Nickels’ office announced today that it’s disciplined six SDOT employees–one was reportedly sleeping on the job during the storm–and reassigned the department’s street maintenance director, Paul Jackson, who asked to be transferred. SDOT’s problems reportedly even extended to discriminatory disciplinary practices. (West Seattle Blog has a good rundown of the announcement.) In a press release, Nickels said “getting to the root of the problem requires difficult changes involving people, attitudes and expectations.” Sounds like it.
