YOU JUST KNEW this Boeing stuff would go to Chicago’s head, didn’t you?

According to Chicago Sun-Times business columnist Lewis Lazare, Windy City marketing executives want to cash in on their city’s successful courtship of the formerly Seattle-based aircraft giant.

Gerry Miller of the Leo Burnett Co. comes perilously close to stepping on our Jet City trademark when touting Chicago as “the high-flying city of broad shoulders.” Um, catchy stuff, Gerry. Maybe you could get Britney Spears to sing that.

Bradley Wilkes of Ogilvy Public Relations Worldwide tells Lazare that Chicago has “all the necessary ingredients for business success in the 21st century,” including a good transportation network, cultural opportunities, an educated workforce, fine quality of life, freezing-cold winters, and abundant, cheap heroin. Oh wait, I added those last two. Perhaps there is some lingering resentment over that Boeing departure after all. . . .
