ARE THEY CRIME STOPPERS or merely nuisances? That’s the question being asked about KIRO-TV’s special reports unit, led by pit bull investigator Chris Halsne. Jamaican authorities griped that the video snoopers’ search for bank robbery suspect Aristotle Marr interfered with their investigation. However, just a week after Halsne’s report was aired, Marr turned himself in to Seattle authorities. Relatives claimed the TV report contributed to the surrender, as the media attention caused Marr’s straitlaced Jamaican grandparents much embarrassment. A nice tale, but another TV report may also have influenced Marr—the Jamaican true crime program that offered a $35,000 reward for his capture.
