Justin Dylan RenneyJeff Dowd enjoys a Caucasian, Monday, in Fremont. Watch a slideshow of Monday’s installment of Lebowski Fest. He’s the inspiration for a character described as “[A] lazy man. Quite possibly the laziest in all of Los Angeles County, which would place him high in the runnin’ for laziest worldwide.” A character who lounged in Jellies and never knew what day of the week it was, and who, contrasting himself with a noted businessman/philanthropist, described himself as “someone the square community won’t give a shit about.”Nevertheless, Jeff Dowd, the prototype for Jeff Bridges’ Jeff Lebowski in the Coen Brothers’ aptly titled film, The Big Lebowski, received some love from the establishment last night. (He’s in town for Lebowski Fest.) With City Councilmember Nick Licata looking on, Dowd was presented the “Key to the Universe” by the Fremont Chamber of Commerce. It’s the first-ever such key given. As The Dude would say, far out.
