Johnny “Scorpio” Lewis Jr. came within 20 miles of slipping into Canada and away from from authorities who think he murdered a 2-year-old girl. That’s pretty close, considering that it’s a 2,213-mile drive back to Duncanville, Texas, where the alleged crime took place and his odyssey began. But when fleeing from the cops finally comes down to a pursuit on foot, 20 miles is still a very long way. Too far, in fact, for Lewis, who, after an astute bus driver alerted Bellingham Police that he’d just gotten off his bus, was quickly arrested. He’d fled on foot–for a whole two minutes–but the 44-year-old convicted felon was not as quick as Bellingham’s finest.Bus drivers, cabbies, and border officials had been given the heads-up earlier in the week that Lewis may be in Washington and trying to book it to B.C.Authorities aren’t giving out exact details about why they think that Lewis killed his girlfriend’s 2-year-old daughter Sarai Staten on Feb. 20, but he’d been supposed to babysit the girl, and when his girlfriend came home, Staten was nearly dead (she died later at the hospital) and Lewis was nowhere to be found. That, and he already has a rap sheet that includes a conviction for assaulting a child. Now he’s being dragged back to Texas, where we hear they take special care of murderers.Follow The Daily Weekly on Facebook and Twitter.
