It’s not clear what Ronald A. Rutledge’s schedule looked like for his last 18 days at Whitman County Jail. But whatever he had penciled in must have been bad enough to risk another 10 years in there so he could escape. The 29-year-old Dayton man allegedly snuck off on Saturday night while he was doing some work outside the jail, and was last seen heading northbound in his black-and-gray jail threads. He was serving four months for burglary at the time. And as a true testament of his skill as such, he apparently burgled himself a late-model Nissan truck and hasn’t been seen since. He now has a warrant out for first-degree escape, a Class B felony that can earn him up up to 10 years in prison and $20,000 in fines. It’ll be interesting to see if his luck continues, and he’s able to change his name and disappear from all legal existence in America for the rest of his life. If so, all those naysayers who told him to just accept that he was Whitman County’s bitch for 18 more days can suck it.
