In December, we got Santa Claus. Today, we get the state Supreme Court. And on Thursday, we get the Environmental Protection Agency. Seattle is one of only two cites nationwide to host EPA hearings on a proposal to classify carbon dioxide and five other greenhouse gases as pollutants harmful to human health and welfare. (Fancy that!) States sued to force the EPA to use the Clean Air Act to regulate the gases, but the Bush Administration overruled the agency’s scientists and declined. Holdovers from the administration have been critical of the new proposal, calling it a threat to small businesses. The hearing will be Thursday at noon at the Bell Harbor International Conference Center on Alaskan Way. The EPA is asking people to pre-register, especially if they’re looking to comment. (via Sightline Daily)
