If you’re a male of reasonable attractiveness (well, actually, even if you’re not that attractive), there are people who will pay at least $50 to blow you. It’s a simple fact. That said, even if you’re wise to this phenomenon, as a former local politician and current public bus driver, it’s probably best to keep that little slice of street smarts to yourself.Police say Jay Van Lant, a former three-term Lynden City Councilmember and now-former Whatcom County and school-bus driver, was indeed wise to this. And, as KING 5 reported last night, when a passenger got on his bus who was down on his luck and in need of some cash, Van Lant told him that he “had a friend that could perform a sexual act” on him and pay him $50 for enduring it.The guy on the bus apparently wasn’t ready to scrape down that low for a Grant, so he told some folks at the Whatcom Transportation Authority about the offer and they in turn told the cops.Van Lant supposedly hasn’t denied any of it.He was booked into jail, but has since been released. Prosecutors are expected to file charges today.Obviously one can get some powerful friends working in politics, even in a small town like Lynden. But somehow I’d imagined that the people who would blow you at that level would pay a bit better than $50.Sad times, I suppose.
