If you weren’t taking a walking tour of the closed-to-vehicle-traffic Viaduct this

If you weren’t taking a walking tour of the closed-to-vehicle-traffic Viaduct this weekend, you might have noticed some nasty traffic in other parts of the city. (We might add that the decision to combine the Viaduct closure with heavy maintenance work on 1st Avenue South was a stroke of G, a true WSDOT/SDOT synergy.) So naturally, the forthcoming four-year construction of a deep bore tunnel has some concerned. Particularly those living on the west side of the city. To assuage those concerns–or at least answer some questions–the Ballard and Queen Anne District Councils are teaming up with the Ballard Interbay Northend Manufacturing and Industrial Center Action Committee (BINMICAC, natch) to put on a forum tonight at Ballard High School. Panelists will include city and state reps and experts in tunnel construction. Among the questions they’ll address:-How will residents in Queen Anne/Magnolia, Ballard, Wallingford and Fremont access points to the south and downtown?-What kind of access will we have to the north end of the tunnel?-Will trucks be able to use the tunnel or will they use surface streets?-How will travel times through the corridor be affected?-Why is an economic impact study so important to our decisions affecting the Viaduct? The forum runs from 7-9 PM, but if you miss out, you should be able to catch all the action shortly thereafter on the Seattle Channel.
