Getting to work at Seattle Weekly headquarters on Western Avenue downtown took

Getting to work at Seattle Weekly headquarters on Western Avenue downtown took some creative planning this morning. That’s because the entire square block around the old federal office building on First Avenue was cordoned off while the Seattle Police Bomb Squad and Federal Protective Service officers conducted an investigation. Was there a bomb? No. But there was an “air soft pistol.”Seattle Police Det. Mark Jamieson showed up at the scene a little while ago. He laid out what happened. The scene at 9:15 a.m.”Shortly before 8 a.m. Seattle Police received a call from the Federal Protective Service on the 900 block of First Avenue–basically the old federal office building,” Jamieson explained. “The call indicated that an individual had approached a couple of their officers at the loading dock with a bag. The individual didn’t speak much English. We think he was trying to turn in the bag thing and say ‘I found this, I don’t know what to do with it.’ Officers looked inside and it appeared there was a weapon and maybe an explosive device inside, so the officers called 911 immediately. Our arson bomb squad did respond to examine the item, and determined it was safe–it was not an explosive device. It looked like it was an air soft pistol. At first glance it certainly looked real, so they did the prudent thing.” That is all. Follow The Daily Weekly on Facebook and Twitter.
