Facing a tight race in part because of the conservatism of low-turnout, off-year electorates, the Approve R-71 campaign asked yesterday for more money. (An “approve” vote will uphold the state’s domestic partnership law.) Today, the ACLU answered by making it rain $32,000. The money comes from the ACLU of Washington and the national ACLU LGBT project, and will help the campaign ramp up its efforts in what spokesperson Josh Friedes notes is the “shortest campaign cycle ever for any referendum in Washington state.” Mo money may sometimes mean mo problems, but with less time and mo problems, may it also mean mo votes.
