“Coffee” is listed as #1 on the website “Stuff White People Like.” Perhaps that explains why Seattle is among the whitest big cities in America.

Of course the website also lists “Sweaters,” “Threatening to Move to Canada,” “Bicycles,” “Dogs,” “Living by the Water,” “Indie Music,” “Marijuana,” “Snowboarding,” “Gifted Children,” “Organic Food,” and “Farmer’s Markets” on the list, so take your pick.At any rate, census data now confirms what most people already knew: When it comes to White Folk, Seattle is second to few.The Seattle Times

reports today that we now rank fifth on the list of the nation’s 50 largest cities, with 66 percent white people–that’s two spots higher than 10 years ago.The main reason for the decidedly pasty tones of Sea Town’s inhabitants is apparently geographical. The long distance between us and the Southern states where blacks have traditionally migrated from means simply that fewer black people make it up to our corner of the country. Of course, Portland is still whiter than Seattle. In fact it’s the whitest city in the country, with 72 percent of its population identifying as Caucasian. Not surprising. It’s hard to imagine black people “putting a bird on it.”Follow The Daily Weekly on Facebook and Twitter.
