A new survey commissioned by public relations giant Weber Shandwick confirms what most of us already knew: we like Seattle and we like ourselves in it. Never mind that many of the questions asked didn’t include negative options to respond with. It’s almost winter after all and choosing between “environmentally conscious,” “casual,” “open-minded” and “friendly” when describing the city just helps us not to rush to harsh judgment. Statistical masturbation aside, there were a few interesting nuggets to be mined. Check out the highlights after the jump.The survey asked questions like: “do you think that most of Seattle’s residents are proud of their city?” (94 percent marked “yes”), “If the choice was up to you, would you like to retire in Seattle?” (68 percent marked “yes”) and “twelve months from now, do you think Seattle’s economy will be in better shape, worse shape or about the same?” (44 percent marked “about the same”).Other interesting tidbits include 71 percent of people who said they plan to stay in Seattle 15 years or more from now and 27 percent who said “entertainment” was the industry most lacking in the city.Though the majority of questions were asked of locals themselves, the surveyors did ask one question to a national audience about what they think of Seattle. The choices also didn’t include any negative options like “polite, but not friendly,” “terrible drivers,” or “passive aggressive,” but in any case, the top three responses were “friendly,” “environmentally conscious” and “casual.”
