A few weeks ago, the Tenants Union of Washington State–which organizes, educates, and advocates for renters–announced that it might have to close its doors, since King County was cutting off the organization’s funding. The board gave itself until July 16th to raise $25,000 to keep it going through the end of the year. As of last week, they were at almost $15,000–still nearly $10,000 short. But last night, the group announced on its Facebook page that it had received an anonymous donation of $25,000, to go on top of $17,500 raised up to that point. Thus, the TU survives–at a time when its work is especially needed, as tenants get evicted as their landlords get foreclosed. Congrats to the TU!
