The Blue Scholars emcee has been back to UW–but not to take classes. Not limited to speaking at the hip-hop class SW wrote about in “UW’s School of Rap,” Geologic has been a constant presence at his alma mater. In his words:”From kicking off fall quarter at Dawg Daze in October, to being invited to speak at Prof. Jeanette Bushnell and the homie Third Andresen’s hip-hop class, to rocking in the basement of a house party-it’s been good to have any excuse to come back. Even better to see a thriving mini-music scene of talented producers, visual artists, photographers and emcees creating good shit and getting that degree amidst all the bullshit tuition hikes and budget cuts.”The post also offers a taste of some recent Husky collaborations and behind-the-scenes commentary on them, including connections with Preach (aka starting UW offensive lineman Gregory Christine), Jack The Ripper and Sol.And, in a post earlier today, Geo posted a streaming bonus track from Bayani Redux titled “Dawn Song” that features Shad K–“the Tim Duncan of Canadian Rap.” His words, not mine, but a talented wordsmith nonetheless. The 3-minute-long track is light, airy and flawlessly metered in the style of much of Bayani, and even while considering myself knowledgeable on the Scholars I hadn’t heard the track until today. It’s available on iTunes.
