Portable Shrines are a local artists’ collective who promote the creation and consumption of psychedelic sounds in Seattle. For the past two years, they’ve organized the annual Escalator Fest to showcase local rockers of the third eye alongside like-minded acts from other locales, and they’ve been responsible for booking many a fine show in between. Now, after many months of work, they’re preparing to release a record, Magic Sound Theater Vol. 1, a compilation collecting new tracks from artists they’ve booked at Escalator Fest or elsewhere, including AFCGT, Kinski, Prince Rama, and Midday Veil. The album, a joint release with esteemed local curators Light in the Attic, comes on double vinyl with a gatefold sleeve and original artwork by a handful of the featured musicians. It’s out on April 16 (for Record Store Day), with a limited number available at a record release party April 2 at the Lo-Fi Gallery (lineup TBA); it’s being released in a limited run of 1,000.
