Old Time Relijun courtesy Sara CassInstead of regurgitating the Short List, here are a few shows I recommend that didn’t make it into this week’s recommendations, but are equally worthy of your evening.Tonight: Old Time Relijun, The Lights, the Whore MoansComet Tavern, 9 p.m., $10Old Time Relijun garners some mixed responses, but if you’re a fan- and I am- an evening of freaky experimental electro-punk insanity, introduced by some straight-up punk rawk, is in store for you.The Girls’ CD release Chop Suey, 9 p.m., $8 advYou can also see the Girls Saturday night if you have a prior engagement. See below:Saturday: The Bronx, the Girls, the ValkyriesKing Cobra, 6 p.m.The Girls are dudes; the Valkyries are ladies. Both are from Seattle and will play very danceable punk rock before Los Angeles punk rock band The Bronx plays. And if you’re worried about the Girls’ line-up changes screwing up the band…don’t. What I’ve heard of the new album so far is RIGHTEOUS.Damien Jurado, Jennifer O’ConnorTriple Door Mainstage, 10 p.m., $12 adv, $14 dosIf you’re in the mood for a quieter evening in a classy setting, the pared-down lyrical stylings of Damien Jurado might be just the ticket. And if you, like myself, dig punk rock and quiet folk in equal parts, you could possibly try and attend both of the above shows. It’s just a short bus ride!
