Not that you need any encouragement to buy something masterminded by the brilliant songwriter Sam Beam, but as you may know, his new B-side collection Around the Well comes out today, and so I’m posting this song, “The Trapeze Swinger,” brought to you courtesy of Sub Pop. It is the very last one on Around the Well and, I can personally assure you, was one of the loveliest songs he played at the Triple Door two weeks ago. When he sang, “the pearly gates have some eloquent graffiti,” it actually gave me chills. If you are sad to have missed that show, maybe you better hurry up and get yourself a ticket to No Depression festival at Marymoor on Saturday, July 11, where Beam will be appearing along with Gillian Welch, Jesse Sykes and a whole bunch of other roots music notables.
