Last week we heard the Shins’ first new song in two years; now we’ve got even more new James Mercer material. The Shins frontman has recorded a cover of Neil Young’s “Journey Through The Past” for the soundtrack to the upcoming documentary 180° South (Isaac Brock’s Ugly Cassanova is also contributing music to the project). “Journey Through The Past” is a stripped down track of simple piano and vocals – I’m not the hugest fan of Mercer’s voice, but it’s such a beautiful song that even the cover is worth a listen:Click here to listen to James Mercer’s cover on I Guess I’m Floating. But then you’ve got to click here to listen to Young’s original.
