It is called Setting the Paces, it is their fourth full-length, and it will be available for mass consumption October 27 from Magic Marker Records. Which is three months away. But August 7 is coming right up, which is the night BOAT plays the Sunset Tavern with the Nightgowns, the Special Places and Ron Hexagon. BOAT plays pop music the way it was meant to be played: with joy and a sense of humor. And like everything else BOAT’s released so far, Setting the Paces is bright, buoyant and catchier than a baseball glove — even in its slow, somber moments.Just to tease you some more, I’ve posted the track list for the new album after the jump. One of my favorite things about BOAT is how they specialize in quirky song titles, but my favorite on this particular record is “You’re Muscular,” which tickles me for reasons I can’t quite explain. Maybe that’s why they saved it for last. I also enjoy “Tough Talkin’ the Tulips.” Oh, D. Crane. I wish I’d had teachers as cool as you when I was a little kid.
