If you’re hurting for something to do tonight (since it’s sort of slow even for a Monday), it might be worth your while to check this out. Of all the participating bands, I’m particularly fond of What What Now (pictured), a band that juxtaposes its melodic, nearly poppy instrumentals with hoarse hardcore vocals. The only requirement for entry in this contest is that each band must contain at least one current Pagliacci employee (you know, the pizza joint that won Best Pizza in our Best of Seattle Readers’ Poll every year until we finally gave up and gave them a Lifetime Achievement Award last year), the battle of the bands pits all of these co-workers against each other in a friendly competition. It begins at 9 p.m. at Neumos and costs $5; door proceeds benefit the Vera Project. The winner of the battle, meanwhile, gets two days of studio time at Bear Creek Studios in Woodinville. Here’s the complete line-up:9:00 pm – Mahaffey’s Dolls9:30 pm – Jesse Fox 10:00 pm – Black Science10:30 pm – Waves of the Mind11:00 pm – Slackhabit11:30 pm – FatCat12:00 am – What What Now12:30 am – WormWood
