DaM-FunK, Nectar Lounge, 412 N. 36th St. $12. 21 and over. 8 p.m. Though modern boogie funk only really got a few years of shine, Damon Riddick–aka DaM-FunK–is keeping it alive. After spending much of the ’90s as a producer and studio player for early West Coast rappers, the Pasadena native instituted his legendary “Funkmosphere” nights and garnered a buzz for his insatiable energy, crunchy digital drums and keytar solos.Says Seattle’s DJ Supreme La Rock: “When you talk about funk, the average cat is going to mention Parliament or Funkadelic, which is OK–but they’re not really where the funk is. People argue with me all the time, but there’s so much more to it and so much unheard stuff that’ll blow you away.”Read the rest of Dam’s “Incomplete History,” including more from Supreme and dj100proof, over in the music section.
