Billy Martin plays a 9 p.m. set at the Mix tonight with Will Blades. Tickets are $15.The Mix, that tucked away Georgetown club that Brian J. Barr wrote about last year (6006 12th Avenue South, around the corner from the 9 lb Hammer), recently opened up for lunch and drinks, and has been stepping up its bookings of late, too.Our ears have perked up for recent sets from the New Pornographers’ Kathryn Calder; the pre-Thanksgiving romp from the Dead Kenny Gs, and, of course, tonight’s set from Billy Martin — the middle/drummer portion of Medeski, Martin, and Wood — and keyboardists Will Blades. They’ll be joined by Seattle’s own freak-sax giant Skerik. If you like your jazz with a pinch of funk (the good kind, not the city-fair kind), and plenty of tangents and experimentation, it’s not to be missed. Barr and I will be the guys in the corner playing air sax in the key of Manny’s.
