The highly-recommended caramelized apple crepe at La Cote Creperie. What: Ham and cheese crepe, caramelized apple crepe, and a salmon crepe. Where: La Cote Creperie, 2811 E Madison St., 323-9800Dent in account: $28.00Would I eat there again? If I ever had the hankering for crepes again, then I definitely would.Official tasting notes: La Cote Creperie is a beautiful, tiny restaurant adorned in blue and white, including, yes, the wait staff. Though dressed casually, I felt comfortable in the classy, intimate atmosphere – like maybe the kings of old in France felt when having bed in breakfast at Versailles. The service was quick and polite, and our food was presented wonderfully on rectangular plates. But my super-capacity stomach groaned at the sight of my crepe, a extra-thin, relatively small-looking meal compared to my normal Saturday morning brunch fare. Thinking I’d have to hit up someplace else for a second round, I grudgingly tore into my ham and cheese crepe ($6). To my thorough surprise, it was extremely filling and what’s more, delightfully tasty. My companions also reported their caramelized apple crepe (oh so delicious for $7) and salmon crepe ($9) were top-notch. La Cote offers slightly sweetened crepes made with buckwheat and sweet crepes made with wheat flour in addition to soups and an extensive list of fine wines. Don’t let this ham and cheese crepe’s size fool you. You will be full.
