“The Daily Drink” brings you a must-try libation from our booze columnist Zach Geballe.

This glorious and delightful weather means that it is, undeniably, gin season. My absolute favorite gin drink is the Negroni, and one of the reasons is that the basic formula (equal parts gin, sweet vermouth, and Campari) can easily be modified to create a slightly different effect. Take the White Negroni at Solo Bar: by swapping out the Campari for Lillet, and replacing the sweet vermouth with dry vermouth, you get a brighter and lighter cocktail that still has nice balance. It’s not as bitter and medicinal, but the Lillet still lends it a complexity that’s quite pleasant. With hot weather (hopefully) around the corner, it’s time to start thinking about summer, and few drinks get me more in the mood for it.

Zach Geballe does a lot of drinking. When he’s not working at The Dahlia Lounge or for his business Vine Trainings, he’s studying for the Court of Master Sommeliers Exam. His weekly column here at Seattle Weekly, The Bar Code, endeavors to inspire, educate and sometimes poke fun at all things beer, wine and spirits related.
