That thing looks pretty mean even without the Listeria monocytogenes…Since we’ve already spent a good chunk of time today discussing one of Seattle’s big food obsessions (salmon, and the possible release to market of genetically engineered salmon which will someday rise up and enslave us all), I figured, “why not just mess up everyone’s day?” and so found this–a story about our fair city’s other food obsession: crab.Late last week, Hallmark Fisheries of Charleston, Oregon, recalled several different varieties of packaged crab meat that may have been contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. No illnesses have yet been reported but, as with all potential Listeria outbreaks, the effects can be nasty. The affected brands are: Hallmark, Peacock, Quality Ocean International and Yaquina Bay. This stuff was sold primarily to food service companies (mostly in vac-pacs and 5 lb cans), but was distributed in Washington, California, Oregon and Nevada.Safety first, right kids? We now return you to your regularly scheduled programming…
