Okay, so remember back at the beginning of September when I told all you good people about the Seattle Weekly Home Brew Competition and how, after weeks of waiting for entrants and then hours of drinking and tasting and swirling and color-checking and form filling-outing, me and four other serious beer-judging professionals had sat down and chosen a winner from among 27 completely different home-brewed beers?Remember how I told you that I couldn’t tell you who the winner was, but that we were going to be throwing a big party to announce it (and drink a couple kegs of the winner’s brew) on October 23 at Brouwer’s Cafe?Yeah, well that’s not going to happen exactly as we’d planned…See, apparently, a good beer can’t be rushed. Apparently, no matter how much you shout at it, no matter how much you beg and coddle and bargain with a good beer, it just will not be ready one minute before it is actually ready. And according to Alejandro “Big Al” Brown of Big Al Brewing (who was in charge of brewing up the winning beer for the party and award’s ceremony), this beer? It’s being a bit…stubborn.Big Al has been working on the stuff for three weeks now. But he decided recently that the good stuff jut wouldn’t be as good as it could possibly be if we rushed it in order to make the original October 23 date. “I do know one thing,” he said. “You don’t rush beer.”And I’m fine with that. Big Al is the expert and his sounds like wise council. So what we’ve decided is to put off the event by a week, in order to give the winning brew a chance to mature just a little bit longer. So the new details are thus:Seattle Weekly Home Brew Award CeremonySaturday, October 302-4pmBrouwer’s Cafe, 400 N. 35th StreetSee? Now you’ve got an extra week to plan (and find a designated driver). Hope to see you all there.
